Chongqing Society for Rock Mechanics and Geotechnique (CSRMG) was founded by Chongqing Jianzhu University (now renamed Chongqing University), which was commissioned by Chinese Society for Rock Mechanics & Engineering. It was submitted to Chongqing Municipal Science and Technology Commission and Chongqing Municipal Civil Affairs Bureau for examination and approval and formally established on January 15, 1992. It is a local, non-profit, academic and legally registered social organization with legal personality, which is voluntarily composed of relevant rock mechanics and engineering science and technology units, experts and scholars in Chongqing.

Since its establishment, CSRMG has complied with the constitution, laws, regulations and national policies, promoted social morality, and practiced the socialist core values. Under the guidance of Marxism-Leninism, Mao Zedong's Thought, Deng Xiaoping's Theory, the important thought of "Three Represents", the Scientific concept of development and Xi Jinping's thought on socialism with Chinese characteristics for a new era, CSRMG should practice dialectical materialism, adhere to the scientific attitude of seeking truth from facts, conscientiously implement the policy of "letting a hundred flowers blossom and a hundred schools of thought contend", fully carry forward democracy, carry out free academic discussion, and unite the majority of technology workers in rock mechanics and engineering science, which aims to flourishes and develops Chongqing's scientific and technological undertakings and economical construction, promote scientific and technical achievements and talents, accelerate the realization of China's four modernizations, and contribute to a prosperous, democratic and civilized modern socialist country.

Under the lead of Previous honorary director-general Professor Zhu Keshan, Academician Xian Xuefu, Academician Zheng Yingren, Professor Hu Zhenying and previous director-general Professor Xia Zhengzhong, Professor Zhang Yongxing and Professor Liu Xinrong, CSRMG has developed healthily, steadily and gradually absorbed 15 group members and more than 500 individual members. 6 branch offices, such as 'Geotechnical Engineering Investigation Professional Committee', 'Geotechnical Engineering Testing Professional Committee', 'Tunnel and Underground Engineering Professional Committee', 'Slope and Foundation Engineering Professional Committee', 'Geotechnical Engineering Advisory Professional Committee', 'Education and Youth Work Committee' have been set up. In 2016, it was approved to set up the first group of science communication experts of Chongqing Science and Technology Association, "Chongqing Society for Rock Mechanics and Geotechnique Science Communication Expert Group", and in 2017, "Chongqing Society for Rock Mechanics and Geotechnique Party Branch" was established. Within the scope of its business, CSRMG actively carries out academic exchanges and cooperation, science and technology popularization and achievement promotion, knowledge training and talent recommendation, as well as engineering consulting and other activities. Over the past 30 years, CSRMG has held more than 40 national academic conferences and academic annual conferences as organizers, contractors or co-organizers, and participated in more than 100 international conferences and national conferences at home and abroad. More than 50 people have been pushed to the 'Chinese Society for Rock Mechanics & Engineering', 'Chongqing Science and Technology Association' or won awards, such as National Excellent Scientific and Technological Workers, Chongqing Excellent Scientific and Technological Workers, Chongqing Top Ten Scientific and Technological Youth Awards, Chinese Society for Rock Mechanics & Engineering Youth Science and Technology Award, Excellent Doctoral Dissertation Award, Chinese Society of Rock Mechanics & Engineering Youth Talent Trust Project, and so on. It has won more than 40 science and technology awards from Chinese Society for Rock Mechanics & Engineering, and has been praised by Chinese Society for Rock Mechanics & Engineering and Chongqing Association for Science and Technology. CSRMG has won many honorary titles such as 'Advanced Society' of the National Society for Rock Mechanics & Engineering, 'Star Society' and 'Characteristic Society' of Chongqing, and so on.
