The development positioning of research universities and the expansion of enrollment have made the utilization of underground space in new campuses an important resource influencing the development of these schools. Based on the functions and spatial development positioning of research universities, combined with the study of existing cases, the appropriate functional configuration and development scale of underground space is discussed, and the factors influencing the development scale are analyzed. A scale calculation system and functional ratio model for underground space are analyzed. Taking the Fangshan New Campus of Beijing University of Technology as an example, the feasibility of the underground space function planning model is verified. It is hoped to provide a reference for the planning and utilization of underground space in new campuses of research universities.
